Quick Start Challenge - Week 2 Challenge
Like most people, I dreamed of making a treasure-like fortune online...quitting my day-job, working like 3 minutes a day and traveling the globe to exotic countries. Then, reality check--4 kids still in school, aging parents and grandparents, A-1 personality wife who would rather die than lose 1 cent from her pension at her current "working for the man job". Uuugghhh....depressing...but wait-I can still do this and make my life HERE so much better.
We are really not flashy people. We don't really have any desire to have "shiny things" or keeping up with the Joneses. What I really want is to work in my T-shirt and shorts. And to do that I have to make enough money and invest enough money to quit my job and make-up for what A-1 makes, so she can quit her job too.
So what does our dream life really look like...well it basically involves being able to live in our current area about half of the time and traveling to warm places or countries we have never been the rest of the time. That way when we have grandkids we can be flexible but still get out of dodge.
The cost to make this happen:
Need to make $150K/year - this is our current incomes now. I need to invest enough money to make this in interest/returns every year ( yes we will lose some payments and make gains as kids eventually (hopefully) leave but for the sake of this exercise I am just going to go with this).
Plan on working online for the next 5-7 years. Need to get $1.75MM invested to get the return of $150K/yr.
For 5 years I would need to make approximately $400K/yr which would get me my 1.75MM and allow $250K over 5 years to pay off debts, weddings, etc.
For 7 years, I would need to make about $300K/yr to accomplish the same.
Now I may still want to work online after this. I don't know. But I do know this is my ideal situation. My goal. If...when I accompish this, I can work in my T-shirts and shorts and life will be good....
